Frequently Asked Questions
What can I customise on the Settings page?
You can pick a colour theme, set the default master volume, choose a default Sleep Timer duration, adjust base font size, override the accent colour, set default sound and visual for Focus Mode, and configure break and streak notifications. There's also a Data Management section for exporting, importing, or clearing your saved data.
Is Settings free to use, and do I need to sign up?
Yes — there's no account, no email, and no paywall anywhere on ASMR Sanctuary. Every setting you change here applies instantly and is free to use for as long as you like.
Where are my settings actually stored?
Everything on this page is saved to your browser's local storage on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, there's no tracking, and no one else can see your preferences — clearing your browser data or using a different device will reset them.
What does Reduce Motion actually change?
Turning on Reduce Motion disables CSS transitions and animations across the site, including hover effects and page transitions. It doesn't stop the audio-visualiser canvases on pages like Focus Mode or Visuals, since those are the core content rather than decorative motion.
How is the Default Sound and Default Visual different from what I pick on the Focus page itself?
The values you set here are just the pre-selected options shown when you open Focus Mode — they save you a couple of clicks. You can still change the sound or visual for that specific session on the Focus page itself; doing so doesn't overwrite your saved default here.
What happens when I click "Reset All Settings"?
It reverts your colour theme, default volume, and Sleep Timer default back to their original values. It does not touch your journal entries, saved mixes, session history, or challenge progress — use the separate buttons in Data Management if you want to clear those.
What's the difference between Clear History, Clear Mixes, and Clear All Data?
Clear History removes your breathing and focus session records only. Clear Mixes removes custom sound combinations you've saved from the Sound Mixer only. Clear All Data is the broadest option — it permanently deletes your journal, history, mixes, and challenge progress in one action, so it's worth exporting a backup first.
Can I move my settings and data to another device or browser?
Yes. Use "Export All Data" to download your journal, mixes, history, and challenge progress as a JSON file, then open Settings on the other device or browser and use "Import Data" to restore it. This is also a good way to keep a backup before clearing your browser cache.
Are Push Notifications working yet?
Not yet — the Push Notifications toggle is a preview of a feature that isn't live, which is why it's marked "Coming soon" and disabled. Break Reminders and Streak Reminders, by contrast, are in-app nudges that already work today without needing browser permission.
Why does the Storage Usage bar matter, and what counts toward it?
It shows roughly how much of your browser's local storage is used by everything saved on this site — settings, journal entries, mixes, history, and challenge data. Browsers cap local storage per site, so if the bar climbs high, exporting a backup and clearing old history or mixes keeps things running smoothly.
