Gratitude Journal — Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Gratitude Journal actually do?
Each day it asks you to write three things you're grateful for and log a quick mood rating. It tracks your streak, totals your entries and gratitudes, and gives you a weekly summary showing entries, average mood, and your best day, plus a full history of past entries below.
Is the Gratitude Journal free and does it require an account?
Yes, it's completely free with no sign-up. There's no account to create and no email required — you can start writing your first entry immediately.
Is my gratitude journal data stored anywhere online?
No. Every entry, streak, and mood rating is stored locally in your browser rather than on a server, and nothing is tracked or transmitted elsewhere. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, your history won't follow you, since there's no cloud backup by design.
How is the Gratitude Journal different from the general Journal page?
The Journal page is an open-ended free-writing space for any thoughts or reflections. The Gratitude Journal is a structured, focused practice — exactly three prompts per day plus a mood check-in — designed to build a quick, repeatable daily habit rather than open journaling.
Do my three gratitudes have to be big things?
Not at all — small things count, and often work best. A warm cup of coffee, a text from a friend, or five minutes of sunshine are all valid entries. The prompts are deliberately worded to nudge you toward small, easily overlooked moments rather than only major life events.
What happens if I already wrote today's entry and want to change it?
Once you've saved today's gratitudes, the form switches to a confirmation view with an "Edit today's entry" button. Selecting it reopens your saved entry so you can revise the text or mood before saving again.
What is the share card feature for?
After completing today's entry, you can download a shareable image card summarizing your gratitudes for the day. It's generated locally in your browser, so nothing is uploaded — it's simply a convenient image if you want to save or share your reflection.
Why does the page ask me to rate my mood alongside gratitude?
Pairing a quick mood rating with your gratitude entry lets the weekly summary show patterns, like your average mood or your best day, so you can see whether the practice is correlating with how you feel. It only takes a tap and stays entirely optional to reflect on later.
What happens to my streak if I miss a day?
Your streak counts consecutive days with a saved entry, so missing a day resets it back to zero on your next entry. Your total entries and past history remain intact regardless — only the current streak count is affected by a gap.
Is there research behind gratitude journaling?
Gratitude journaling is one of the most studied positive psychology exercises, with research linking regular practice to improved mood, better sleep, and greater life satisfaction over time. The benefit comes from consistency rather than length, which is why this tool keeps the daily entry short and focused on just three items.
