Frequently Asked Questions
Is my journal private?
Yes. Every entry is stored only in your browser's local storage — nothing is uploaded to a server, and there's no account that could be accessed by anyone else. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, entries won't carry over unless you export them first.
What are the journal templates for?
Gratitude, Reflection, Goal Setting, and Morning Pages each pre-fill the text area with a short prompt structure, so you can start writing immediately instead of facing a blank page. You can edit or delete the template text freely once it's inserted.
How does the mood picker relate to my entries?
Tagging an entry with a mood (or a more specific emotion from the emotion wheel) feeds the 7-day mood trend chart above the editor, so patterns become visible over time — for example, noticing you tend to write lower-mood entries on certain days.
Can I search or filter old entries?
Yes — use the search box to find entries by keyword, or the category filter pills (General, Gratitude, Session, Reflection, Goals) to narrow the list. Tags you've added to entries also appear as a tag cloud you can click to filter further.
What does the "Day Streak" stat count?
It counts consecutive days on which you've saved at least one entry. Missing a day resets the streak to zero the next time you write, but your past entries and word counts are unaffected.
Can I edit or delete an entry after saving it?
Yes — open any entry from the list to edit its text, tags, or mood, or use the delete option on the entry itself. Changes are saved immediately to local storage.
How do I back up or transfer my journal to another device?
Use the Export All button to download a JSON file of every entry. On the new device, go to Settings → Data Management → Import Data and select that file to restore your full journal history.
Is there a limit to how much I can write?
Each entry is capped at 2,000 characters, which keeps entries focused and keeps local storage usage light. If you consistently need more room, consider splitting a longer reflection across two linked entries.
What happens if I click "Clear Journal"?
It permanently deletes every saved entry from this browser. There's no undo, so export your entries first if there's any chance you'll want them later.
Does the markdown formatting (bold, italic, lists) actually render?
Yes — `**bold**`, `*italic*`, `` `code` ``, and `- list` syntax are rendered when you view a saved entry, giving you lightweight formatting without a rich-text toolbar cluttering the writing area.
