In short Hair play is an ASMR trigger combining the visual and auditory experience of someone gently styling, brushing or running fingers through hair. It blends personal attention with soft tactile-implied sound.

What it means

Hair play videos focus on the slow, gentle manipulation of hair: brushing, finger-combing, sectioning, light scalp massage and quiet braiding. The trigger combines several pleasurable elements — the soft swish of bristles, the muted snap of strands separating, and a strong personal-attention cue, since hair is being cared for in front of the camera as if it were the viewer's own. Hair-play content is especially common in salon and friend-grooming roleplays, where the artist directly addresses the camera while working. Some listeners respond more strongly to the visual rhythm of the hands than the audio itself, making this one of the more visually-led ASMR triggers.
