Soft-Spoken
A core term in the ASMR vocabulary — explained for newcomers and curious listeners.
What it means
Soft-spoken delivery uses a warm, hushed voice without dropping into a true whisper. The artist speaks just above breath, with full vowels and clear consonants, usually positioned close to a binaural microphone. Soft-spoken videos are often used for longer-form content such as storytelling, history readings, recipe walk-throughs and gentle roleplays where intelligibility matters. Many people who do not respond strongly to whispering find soft-spoken voices easier to listen to for extended periods, especially during work or before sleep. The style is also popular for guided meditations because it feels personal without being so quiet that listeners strain to follow along.
Common examples
- A soft-spoken history reading designed for falling asleep
- A calm spa-receptionist roleplay
- Guided meditation recorded at low close-mic volume
