Inaudible Whispers
A core term in the ASMR vocabulary — explained for newcomers and curious listeners.
What it means
Inaudible whispering is whispering pushed to its absolute quietest extreme. The ASMRtist mouths words against the microphone with so little voice that the listener hears only soft puffs of air, faint tongue clicks and the rhythm of breath. Because comprehension is removed, the brain shifts attention from meaning to texture, which many people find unusually relaxing. Inaudible whispering blurs into the mouth-sound category and is often combined with slow hand movements or gentle tapping for added trigger density. Headphones are essential, since most home speakers cannot reproduce the trigger at audible volume without distortion.
