Soundscape Creator — Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Soundscape Creator let me do?
It lets you layer up to 6 sounds from the site's sound library into one custom mix, with an independent volume slider for each layer plus a master volume control. You can play, adjust, and stop the whole blend as a single soundscape rather than juggling separate players.
Is the Soundscape Creator free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it's completely free with no signup. There's no account creation, no email, and no paywall — you can start layering sounds immediately.
Where are my saved mixes stored?
Saved mixes are stored locally in your browser using localStorage, not on a server. Nothing you build here is uploaded, tracked, or shared — it only exists on the device and browser you saved it in.
How many sounds can I layer at once?
Up to 6 layers at a time. Each layer card has its own sound picker and volume slider, so you can combine, for example, rain, distant thunder, and a soft crackling fire into one balanced mix.
How do I add or change a sound in a layer?
Click an empty or existing layer card to open the sound picker, then search or browse the grid and select a sound. It replaces whatever was previously loaded in that layer without affecting the other layers.
How do I save and reload a mix later?
Once you're happy with your layers and volumes, click Save Mix, give it a name, and confirm. It appears in the Saved Mixes list below the grid, where you can reload it any time to restore the same sounds and volume levels.
What's the difference between the Soundscape Creator and the Sound Mixer page?
The Sound Mixer page is for freely exploring and blending sounds in the moment. The Soundscape Creator is built around saving and naming distinct mixes as reusable presets, so you can build several soundscapes ahead of time and switch between them later without rebuilding each one.
Can I control the overall volume of my whole mix at once?
Yes. The master volume slider in the toolbar scales all active layers together, so you can quickly turn the entire soundscape up or down without losing the relative balance you set between individual layers.
Will my mix keep playing if I switch tabs or lock my screen?
Audio keeps playing in the background tab as long as the browser tab itself stays open, since playback runs through your browser's audio engine. Closing the tab or navigating away from the page stops playback, the same as with the other sound tools on this site.
Can I delete a saved mix I no longer want?
Yes, each entry in the Saved Mixes list has its own remove option, so you can delete individual mixes without affecting the others. Since everything is stored locally, deleting a mix removes it permanently from that browser.
